Consignment Steal :: Floral and Denim Dress

DSC_2464

What better place could there be to find clothing that might have been worn only once or twice and paid half or less of the original price? Of course, the answer is at a great consignment boutique! However, the idea of consignment shopping or wearing something second hand might be overwhelming for some people. I admit I was one of those people before I actually learned about consignment shopping. Personally, I find that consignment shopping is a great way to save a few bucks when you don’t have limitless bank account. Also, I love the idea of clothing recycling, at the same time, making some money from the items that you consigned. It’s definitely a win-win situation for the store owner, consignor and customer. That being said, do your homework on the consignment stores that you plan to visit. If you head to a right store, most likely you’ll find the merchandise so well cared for that you will never know it was worn before or some it wasn’t because the tag is still on. If you’re lucky enough, you might find designer merchandise at a great price.

It was my lucky day at The Wild Rose, one of my favourite local consignment store! Not only they carry a wide variety of consigned clothing, their customer service is exceptional. Beth and Emily, THANK YOU! Whenever I visit a consignment store, I don’t usually have anything in mind to purchase, it’s just purely browsing and whatever catch my eyes and fits me, it might end up in my closet.

DSC_2491I spotted this gorgeous floral and denim dress among other summer dresses that were gorgeously displayed.  It’s in my size and it’s from one of my favourite clothing designers, Rachel Roy.  I tried it on. Wow, it fits me to a T! This dress costs me $30.00 CAD.  Although the price is a little higher for a consigned item, but the price justifiable as it’s a designer item and the dress is in mint condition. It just so happens that found the same dress at The Hudson Bay outlet few days later. It’s on sale for $69 CAD, and the original price was around $100 CAD. So it’s definitely a steal!!!

Hi everyone! Hope you had a wonderful weekend! I just want to drop by for a quick hello as I’m still recovering from the fun and exciting, but tiring long weekend spent with my siblings and relatives. We went shopping at the newly opened Toronto Premium Outlet, watched movies, BBQ, and went boating and swimming at the Belwood Lake.  Urghh, think I’m getting old, it’s so hard to keep up with the children and teens, they have so much energy!!! I will definitely sleep very well tonight!

Good night/ good morning world!

Business Casual :: Lace and Sequin

Posted on

DSC_2249Happy Wednesday everyone! Hope you’re having a terrific week so far.

DSC_2261In the early days,  dressing for work was easy enough when business suits were the norm and the only colours that seem to be appropriate were the neutrals such as black, grey, brown, navy blue, tan and white. These days, we definitely have more choices and flexibility when it comes to work clothes, especially if your work place allows business casual attire. Being a fashionista myself, I always try to be creative when dressing for work, but still projects traits almost all employees should such as hard-working, professional, neat, or some variation on those themes. My mantra – keep it covered, neutral and classic!

DSC_2273

DSC_2264Here’s an example of one of my favourite business casual outfit – combining neutral colours, classic clothing style such as pencil skirt and collard shirt and only showing appropriate amount of skin. The creative part that can be easily achieved is adding a pop of colour (try to use only one accent colour, and repeat it 2-3 times for a complete look) and/or choosing garments with different pattern or texture such as simple prints, lace or sequin. Be careful, don’t overdone it!!!

Summerlicious :: Custom Green Dress

DSC_2302I consider myself a very lucky girl, because I have a bunch of friends who are food lovers. However, I don’t get to see them that often because we live in different cities. Somehow, we have our little tradition that we will meet at least twice a year, which is when Toronto Winterlicious or Summerlicious happens in town. We gather to taste and discover the finest dishes in the city and of course, to catch up and enjoy each other’s company. Well, the tradition continues with this year’s Summerlicious and that fun night took place at Bloke & 4th

…and this is me! In my custom green dress from eShakti. When you order their products online, you get to customize the item according to your height, style and size. The fun part is that you can add pockets to your dress/skirts! Who doesn’t like this huh?! Well, I can’t quite remember exactly what I customized for this dress since I got it quite a while ago, but I’m pretty sure I added two pockets and also shortened the dress so that it’s just right above my knees. Most importantly, the quality of their items are amazing, especially the fabric. Ladies, I highly recommend this website, especially those of you who need special sizes like petite, tall, or plus size. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m not paid my eShakti to advertise their products, but I just love to share what’s good out there! So, do let me know if you ordered an item from their website after seeing this post, because I think that’s so cool!

Belated Birthday Dinner :: La Cucina Restaurant

Posted on

DSC_2217

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes and lovely words, I’m feeling so much love here in this blogsphere!! Thank you!!! <3<3<3

DSC_2198

Alright, let me introduce the final venue of our dinner –  La Cucina, a little Italian restaurant located in the heart of downtown Guelph. Well, I said that it’s our final venue because Mr. Photographer’s initial plan was to take me to a restaurant in Kitchener. Unfortunately, there was a huge thunderstorm that evening just right before we left the house. The storm was so severe in Kitchener that as we drove closer to the restaurant, all we see was fallen tree branches and electric poles. When we got to that restaurant, it was closed, guess power was out too:( We’re quite disappointed and I was a little upset, so I told him to head back to Guelph and lets just dine at one of the restaurant there. So where do we go now?! Well, we have tried almost every restaurant in Guelph except for La Cucina. I have heard many good things about this place, but never have the chance to try it yet. So, we headed there right away!

DSC_2207We’re nicely greeted by our host/waiter as we arrived. I heard that they have a beautiful patio on the roof top and requested for a seat there. Unfortunately, we’re told that the storm that hit the town earlier destroyed all their table settings, chairs and tablecloths were all soaking wet. Aiks! 😦 Well, he was nice enough to let us have a peak of the roof top patio. Love love love the patio, especially the hanging light bulbs. So pretty and romantic!

DSC_2223

Look at the grape vine by the fence, too cute!!!

DSC_2202

See those hanging light bulbs?? They have it inside the restaurant as well! It’s quite a cozy little restaurant 🙂

Oh, by the way, that’s the hubby (a.k.a Mr. Photographer)! He’s usually behind the camera, but I was in charge that night. LOL!

DSC_2236

I don’t usually drink, but for such a special day, I treat myself to a Cosmopolitan, as recommended by our waiter! Not bad at all, but that’s all for the night. Yeah, that’s my max when it comes to alcohol. Boooo…

DSC_2244

Okay, I’m not gonna lie, this is the best bread I/we have ever had before at an Italian restaurant! It’s freshly baked in the oven, and it’s still warm when it reached our table. It’s crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. It was so good that we ordered a second basket! Look at my silly happy face! Hahhaha!

DSC_2241

As for their menu, we were told that they change their menu four times per year, once every season, using the freshest ingredients they can get. According to our waiter, they source out their fresh produce from the local farm as they try to promote eat locally or so called the “50 miles diet”. Also, the chefs focus on Slow Food. So don’t go to this restaurant if you’re super hungry, because it takes approximately 30 minutes for each course meal to be served. BUT it’s definitely worth the wait because the food is so delicious! Both Mr. Photographer and I agreed that it’s the best Italian restaurant we have had so far!

DSC_2239Soup of the day – Vegetable Soup with sweet peas, carrots, tomatoes, etc…

DSC_2245TAGLIATELLE ARAGOSTA E GAMBERI (ABRUZZO) – Classic Homemade fettuccine seafood pasta made with Caribbean lobster and tiger shrimp meat in a

whisky rose sauce.

Our FAVOURITE!! Scrumptious homemade pasta with super flavourful sauce!

DSC_2246Special of the day – Caribbean Lobster Tail with Seasonal Roasted Vegetable

DSC_2199

Well, that’s all for the dinner. We would love to try their dessert, but we just couldn’t do it anymore. Blame it on the bread! Next time then, we’ll sure be back again and it’s going to be at the roof top patio next time! For you folks who live around here, you have to try out La Cucina if you haven’t so! Cheers!
